Working

The last month has been a move. I sold a house and drove a moving truck across the country, and I turned the drive into the best field test I could ask for: thousands of miles as the primary user of Longways, my road trip app. The data that comes back from real days on the road is the kind you cannot fake from a desk, and it is feeding a steady round of improvements. It is not public yet, so ask me for a private tour.

I keep sharpening this site, too. If something reads wrong, or an idea lands, I want to hear it. The contact page is the fastest way to reach me.

Making

An updated version of the Broadway musical theater history subway map is getting ready to release. The newest revisions are already up on musicaltheaterhistory.com.

Everything Speaks is a letter I'm building: eleven short sections an issue, running from a literary opener to a date in design history to a frame from a film I love. The intro issue lays out the shape. The first real issue is coming.

Howrey Script is a full typeface microsite: live type tester, glyph grid, auto-cycling specimens, scrolling marquees. Free under the SIL Open Font License. Download it and make something.

The Broadway Oracle, 100 cards pairing a Broadway musical with a piece of advice drawn from the show, feeds the newsletter's Oracle section.

Writing

A couple of playwriting projects have come back to life on the side. One updates Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes, moved to Savannah, Georgia in the 1990s. The other is a Charles Mee-inspired collage play exploring the themes of Andy Warhol. If either pulls at you, ask me.
